Properties of Waves : Dispersion
Dispersion is a property of waves where a speed of a wave through a medium depends on a wavelength. So if two waves enter a same dispersive medium and have different wavelengths they will have different speeds in which medium even if they both entered without a same speed.

a Doppler Effect is one interesting phenomenon which occurs when one object producing sound is moved relatively to a listener.

Consider a following: When a car blaring its horn is behind you, a pitch is higher as it is approaching, and becomes lower as it is moving away. This is only noticeable if a object is moving at a fairly high speed, although it is still theoretically present at any speed.

When one object is moving away from a listener, a sound waves are stretched over a further distance meaning they happen less often. a wavelength ends up being greater so a frequency is less and a pitch is lower. When one object is moving towards a listener, a waves are compressed over a small distance making a very small wavelength and therefore a large frequency and high pitch. Since a pitch of a sound depends on a frequency of a waves, a pitch increases when a object is moving towards a listener.
